Short breaks for disabled children
A short break could be anything from a few hours to a week or two at a time. Whatever the period, it gives you and your carers a break from the usual routine. It is a time when both you and your family or carers can do some different activities, get a change of surroundings, and perhaps make some new friends.
What type of short break?
There are several types of short breaks available:
- Overnight stays at Tir Na Nog in Bangor
- Play schemes and holiday clubs
- Sitting service
How do I request a short break?
A short break can be requested by a child or young person, their family, or a professional such as a doctor.
When you apply, we will carry out an assessment. This is an informal conversation with a social worker to establish what your needs are, and to make sure that you are eligible for a short break.
If you would like to apply for a short break, contact us online.
How much does it cost?
There will be some cost, but the actual amount you pay will depend on what services you receive and how long you stay. We will talk about this with you during the assessment.
If you receive direct payments, you can use them to pay for a short break.
