Members and officers of the Council will join together to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day at a Council meeting on Tuesday, 31 January 2017 to remember the victims of genocide.
Two poems will be read out during the meeting. The first poem ‘Yn gyntaf fe ddaethon’ is a Welsh translation of Pastor Martin Niemöller’s poem ‘First they came’ and the second poem ‘Birdsong’ has been especially written for this year’s commemorations by Gillian Clarke the National Poet of Wales.
The event will also be marked by libraries throughout the County who will be displaying relevant reading material to commemorate the event.
Holocaust Memorial Day commemorates and preserves the memory of those who have been murdered in the Holocaust and the theme for 2017 is “How can life go on”.
