Care homes to get creative through song and dance

Residents at three care homes in Denbighshire will soon be getting a taste of music and dance, all thanks to a grant from Comic Relief.

Denbighshire was successful in its bid for a two year grant from Comic Relief’s Care Home Challenge Fund and these will allow regular workshops to take place with NEW Dance and with musicians from Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias Music Centre – this work will be co-ordinated by Denbighshire Arts Service.

Artists will work closely with care home staff at Cysgod y Gaer (Corwen) , Awelon (Ruthin)  and Dolwen (Denbigh) and provide training to enable these sessions to take place.

Councillor Bobby Feeley, Cabinet Lead Member for Well-being and Independence, said: “This is such a great initiative and will definitely benefit the well-being of care home residents through getting them involved in fun, engaging and entertaining activities.

“We will also be strengthening links with the local community through bringing in performers to entertain the residents and involving families and carers..  With this initiative we are thinking outside of the box and being creative in our approach. I’m sure residents will get a tremendous amount of fun and confidence through getting involved in this”.

Three members of the team attended the start-up meeting at Comic Relief HQ in London where they were introduced to them to the world of Comic Relief and learnt how we will work with them over the lifetime of the grant.

The sessions are due to take place in the new year.
