Top marks for Ruthin Tri Stars

Denbighshire County Council has congratulated a local sports club for being recognised by Disability Sports Wales for their efforts to develop inclusive sports opportunities for children and young people within the club.

Ruthin Tri Stars was established in the summer of 2010 with the sole aim of giving youngsters the opportunity to try something different, but most importantly to have fun, get fit and enjoy themselves through a structured and safe environment. Boys and girls from the ages of 6 to 16 train in the 3 key disciplines of triathlon; SWIM-BIKE-RUN, as well as other fun activities such as ball games, gym workouts and much more.
The club has recently started an adult/senior club to provide opportunities for older athletes to also compete in triathlon.

The club is a bronze standard accredited club and has just been named Disability Sport Wales’ insport club of the month.

Councillor Huw Jones, Cabinet Lead Member with responsibility for Leisure, said: “Denbighshire is delighted that Ruthin Tri Stars is leading the way in terms of insport, providing access to many youngsters, including some with special educational needs to access all kinds of sporting activities.

“As a Council, we provide support through our Disability Sport Wales Development Officer and we are working together towards achieving the vision in our Leisure Strategy of improving lives and creating opportunities through sport.

“Insport really helps raise the profile of disability in sport and Ruthin Tri Stars should be extremely proud of their accreditation. It’s great news for the children and young people, but also for disability sport in Denbighshire”.

Disability Sport Wales Development officer for Denbighshire Brett Jones said “It’s great for Ruthin Tri Stars to be awarded insport club of the month, there has been lots of hard work and developments happen at the club resulting in being awarded both their ribbon award and the bronze award very soon after down to the dedication of the coaches and wanting to drive the club forward in providing inclusive opportunities.

“I’m looking forward to supporting the club further and to see the hard work everyone at the clubs puts in as they move forward on their journey through insport and the benefits this will provide to the clubs overall development.”
