A planning application has been submitted for a new skate park in Rhyl.
Alliance Leisure has submitted the application on behalf of Denbighshire County Council for the skate park, which will be located at a disused green at East Parade Bowls Club.
The Council previously held a public consultation during which more than 200 people had the chance to influence the new skate park’s design and location.
East Parade Bowls Club comprises of four greens and the fourth green will be home to the new skate park.
The proposal is for a skate park with state-of-the-art equipment, which will be sympathetically blended in with the existing area, two link paths and a seating area.
Cllr Hugh Evans OBE, Leader of Denbighshire County Council, said: “We are pleased to be working with Alliance Leisure and East Parade Bowls Club on the application for the new skate park.
“This new facility will offer state-of-the-art equipment and will improve the offer to users.
“There are a number of benefits to this site, including the possibility of bringing the Taste Academy building back into use as a café with the higher footfall expected in this area.
“We want to create a more vibrant active zone and the skate park and bowling club will offer residents and visitors a great mix of facilities as well as bringing more footfall and business to this area of the promenade – all year round.
“The existing skate park has been closed since work on the new waterpark started, but Denbighshire County Council is confident the new, modern skate park will be worth waiting for.”
Work on the skate park forms part of the Council’s wider regeneration work in the town which includes a 1200 metre square waterpark, with indoor and outdoor flume rides, children’s water play frame and slides and the recently opened 1891 restaurant at the Pavilion Theatre.
