Denbighshire County Council has approved a timetable to deliver a brand new Local Development Plan (LDP) for the county and is to submit its proposal to Welsh Government for confirmation.
The Council agreed an LDP Review Report and agreement for the replacement LDP back in December 2017 but a letter was then received by Lesley Griffiths, Cabinet Secretary for Capitalising Energy, Planning and Rural Affairs, inviting the Council to prepare a joint LDP with Conwy Council. Following a joint meeting, it was recommended that both Councils should produce separate plans, but work together wherever possible.
A subsequent letter by the Cabinet Secretary has now confirmed that local councils can proceed with their own plans.
Councillor Brian Jones, Cabinet Lead Member for Highways, Planning and Sustainable Travel, said: “Whilst our decision is subject to approval by Welsh Government, we now want to press ahead with the LDP to the next stage, to try and make sure that a replacement plan is in place for the time the current plan comes to an end. This process will involve a lot of consultation and working with communities to come up with proposals that meet the need for developments in the county and we aim to have a plan in place by Autumn 2021”.
