Countdown begins for leisure centre re-opening

The countdown has begun to the opening of St Asaph Leisure Centre following a significant refurbishment.

The brand new facilities include a 3G pitch; users can take advantage of a new state of the art fitness suite/gym, fitness changing rooms, reception and an activity room.

The squash courts, gymnasium and sports hall have also been given a make-over

A grass pitch is being created and is due to open in the Spring.

Councillor Bobby Feeley, Cabinet Lead Member for Well-being and Independence, said: “Many of you will have seen the significant work going on at Ysgol Glan Clwyd to upgrade our leisure facilities on the site.

“The major redevelopment at the school has provided a great opportunity for us to invest in the facilities, for the benefit of the school and the wider community. We wanted to update the dated facilities into a state of the art centre fit for the 21st Century.

“Our new facilities will be modern, fit for purpose and will provide the people of St Asaph and surrounding areas with great equipment and facilities that will help keep them healthy and well.

Jamie Groves, Head of Facilities, Assets and Housing, said: “The facilities are proving more popular than ever, even before the doors open for the first time. There has been a serious demand for a 4G pitch in this part of Denbighshire, with significant interest already from people across north Denbighshire wanting to book the facilities, such is the demand. We even have professional footballers wanting to use the facilities when they are up and running.

“We would like to thank the leisure centre users for their co-operation during the construction works, but I’m totally confident that people will be delighted with the end result”.

The brand new facilities will officially open on Monday, October 16th.
