East Rhyl Coastal Defence Scheme

East Rhyl Coastal Defence Scheme

The East Rhyl Coastal Defence Scheme is a £27 million project to protect 1,650 properties in East Rhyl from coastal flooding, with work starting in April 2020 and ending in December 2022.

The scheme funded through the Welsh Government and Denbighshire County Council will see the main contractor Balfour Beatty work to place 128,000 tonnes of rock armour in front of the existing sea defences at East Rhyl, as well as 600 metres of new sea defence wall and promenade.

These defences will help protect the area from current storms but also from the impact of climate change which could see sea levels rise and increase the frequency of storms.
