Community Development: How we can help
Community means different things to different people. Here are a few examples of the types of community that exist, though there are many more:
- A community of place e.g. the street that you live on
- A community of interest e.g. a sports club
- A community of action e.g. a group of people trying to bring about change
- A community of circumstance e.g. a group of people experiencing similar situations such as a health condition
The role of the Community Development Team is to work with people across Denbighshire who would like to bring about a positive change within their community. This could involve starting a brand new project from scratch, expanding the work of an existing group or simply just acting on a good idea that you have had with other like-minded people.
We believe that it is important for communities to be in the lead, telling us what we can do to help them achieve what is most important to them and not the other way around. This means that we will only get involved where we are asked to do so and we always encourage communities to draw upon the skills and assets of the people within them.
How we can help varies depending on what the community tell us is needed, often it involves things such as funding advice, project planning guidance and making connections with other teams or partner organisations. The team provide a tangible link between communities and a wide range of partners but also between like-minded community groups themselves, this enables shared learning across the county.
