Halloween week at Ruthin Goal

Step inside the historic walls of Ruthin Gaol this Halloween for a spooky half-term adventure like no other. We’ve got ghostly torchlight trails, wonderfully wicked craft activities, and our popular After Dark late-night opening is back on selected evenings, giving visitors the chance to explore the Gaol after night has fallen. 

Whatever time you choose to visit, this is a family-oriented event with no scares or actors, and is self-led so you can explore at your own pace. To create a spooky feel the lights in the basement will be lower than usual so please bring a torch if you have one (it’ll come in handy for the family trail too). 

Ruthin Gaol is open as usual to history seekers looking to enjoy the heritage attraction as normal. You might just encounter a few spooky exhibitions along the way.

When is it?

We'll be open for Halloween week:

  • Saturday 24 to Wednesday 28 October 2026, 10:30am to 4:30pm (last entry at 3:30pm)
  • Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 October, 10:30am to 8pm (last entry 7pm) - After Dark evenings

Who can take part?

This event is suitable for visitors of all kinds. Our spooky trails and activities are perfect for half-term family outings, while older children, teens, and adults may prefer the extra thrill of exploring the Gaol during our After Dark evenings.

How to get involved

No booking is needed for general admission—just turn up during our half-term opening hours and get ready for a spine-tingling experience.

How much does it cost?

All Halloween half-term activities and After Dark evenings are included in the standard admission price:

  • Adult: £9.00
  • Children 5 to 16 years old: £7.00
  • Children under 5 years old: free
  • Family ticket - 2 adults and up to 3 children: £25.00
  • Family ticket - 1 adult and up to 3 children: £16.00
  • Group rate - minimum number 15: £7.50 per person (£50 additional fee during closed season)
  • School group: £5.00 per child (£50 additional fee during closed season)
  • 1 carer accompanying a disabled visitor: free
