Community Engagement Policy and Public Participation Strategy consultation
We are consulting on our Community Engagement Policy and Public Participation Strategy
What are we doing?
We have developed a Community Engagement Policy and a Public Participation Strategy.
The Community Engagement Policy aims to:
- Create a formalised approach to the way the Council engages and consults with communities on important issues
- Provide some standardised definitions about types of consultation and engagement that the Council may carry out
- Provide guidance and support to staff to make sure that communication and engagement activities are effective and meaningful
The Public Participation Strategy is a legislative requirement under the Local Government and Elections (Wales) Act 2021, and aims to:
- Highlight the existing channels and methods for engagement that the Council has
- Encourage the Council to consider how it could improve on existing channels and methods for engagement
Why are we doing this?
The Council does not currently have a formalised approach to engagement and consultation. By implementing the Community Engagement Policy and the Public Participation Strategy, we hope that members of staff, Councillors and the wider public will have an understanding of what the Council should be aiming to achieve when carrying out consultation or engagement activities.
What do we want to know?
We would like to know what you think.
We carried out a 3 year research project to support the development of the Community Engagement Policy, and a small piece of additional research to support the development of the Public Participation Strategy.
We hope that we have created a set of guidelines that is easy for staff, Councillors and the wider public to understand.
What difference will it make?
By telling us what you think, we can be sure that we have developed a set of guidelines that consider everyone's needs and will enable the Council to be more consistent when carrying out consultation and engagement activities.
