The Act covers employment and the provision of goods and services for staff and members of the public who use our services.

Age

The protected characteristic of age applies to all ages.

Sex

This is the protection of men and women.

Gender reassignment

Gender reassignment is when someone decides to live in the gender they identify as rather than the gender they were assigned at birth.

Sexual orientation

Sexual orientation protects all people from discrimination because of actual or perceived sexual orientation or discrimination by association.

Marriage and civil partnerships

Information and support for the protected characteristic of being married or in a civil partnership.

Pregnancy and maternity leave

This provides protection for the pregnant women from direct and indirect discrimination and also for anyone caring for a new born or very young child.

Race

Information and support for the protected characteristic of race, including skin colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin.

Religion or belief

This covers all the recognised faith groups and also those who do not follow any religion or belief system.

Disability

This applies to any physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long term effect on a person's ability to carry out normal day to day activities.
