UKSPF project: Public Realm and Open Spaces Improvement

Project overview
This project aims to improve recreational areas throughout the county with a focus on the following:
- Public realm improvements at Bastion Road, Prestatyn and Riverside Park, Llangollen to include:
- replacement and upgrade of street furniture such as:
- bins
- picnic benches
- seating signage
- environmental improvements such as upgrading railings and steel bollards which will also improve accessibility to the area
- Regeneration of recreational areas at Botanical Gardens, Rhyl, including:
- the replacement of perimeter fencing and the security gate
- environmental and infrastructure improvements throughout the park
Project updates
Project summary December 2022 to March 2025
The Public Realm and Open Spaces Improvement project focused on upgrading public spaces in Prestatyn, Llangollen, and Rhyl, resulting in 51,000m² of enhanced public realm.
The initiative improved accessibility, safety, aesthetics, and biodiversity, incorporating sustainable materials like Flexipave to reduce long-term maintenance.
March 2024
Unfortunately, due to the poor weather that we have experienced in recent weeks there has been a slight delay in the delivery of some of these projects. Our current position is:
- Riverside Park, Llangollen Open Space Improvements – Review meeting to took place on 03/04/24 with a view to creating a wish list, followed by costings which will determine the programme of work.
- Waves Arcade Open Space Improvements, Prestatyn – Work started on the 22/02/24 and is nearing completion.
- Rhyl Botanical Gardens Improvements – Work started on the 04/03/23 and is progressing well, resin pathways are slowly being completed as the work cannot be done in wet weather.
