Debt Recovery and Vulnerable Support Pilot

We are part of the Digital Economy Act 2017 Debt Recovery and Vulnerable Support Pilot.

Working with the Cabinet Office, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), we will be identifying potential vulnerable customers, as well as improving our collection of council tax for those that have arrears and that have not paid.

We can ask HMRC where you work. We will then ask your boss to take money directly from your wage to pay your debt. For example, if you earn £1,300 a month, we could take £156 each month.

We want to support our residents and recognise this could be a difficult time. If you contact us, we could explore your situation and identify what options are available to you.

Council Tax protocol

In 2019, Denbighshire County Council adopted the Welsh Government's Council Tax collection guidelines. This framework ensures the council collects taxes fairly, clearly, and efficiently.

It helps the council better support residents who are struggling financially while making sure everyone pays their fair share to fund local services. The council's main goals are to treat people fairly, reduce missed payments, and offer support to anyone in need.
