Beach wheelchairs
Denbighshire County Council has two operational beach wheelchairs that are available to hire.
The wheelchairs are to help people with mobility difficulties and physical disabilities access Rhyl Beach.
Users of the chairs will require assistance from a friend, family member, or support worker.
Where can the wheelchairs be hired from?
Two wheelchairs are currently in service and be hired from:
Kite Surf Cafe, East Parade, Rhyl, LL18 3AF (external website)
When can the wheelchairs be hired?
The hire of the chairs are available as per the Kite Surf Cafe's opening hours. Please call in advance to book.
What types of wheelchairs are available?
The two operational beach wheelchairs are Landeez All-Terrain wheelchairs.

For all chairs, users will need assistance from a friend, family member or support worker.
The chairs are not equipped with support straps, cushions or harnesses. If any of these accessories are required, please ensure that you bring them with you.
How can I book a wheelchair?
To book the Beach Wheelchair at Kite Surf Cafe, please visit or contact the Kite Surf Cafe (external website) that manages the Beach Wheelchair on behalf of the Council.
Will my existing wheelchair be stored securely?
Yes. At the Kite Surf Cafe, your wheelchair will be stored securely in the building until you return the beach wheelchair.
Is there an emergency number I should call if something goes wrong?
Please contact the Kite Surf Cafe if anything happens to the wheelchair. For on-beach emergencies ring 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Is there any training I need to have before I can hire and use a wheelchair?
There is no specific training needed to use the wheelchairs. You must have a competent adult to push the chair, and you must bring any necessary accessories to suit your needs.
