1. A Denbighshire of quality housing that meets people's needs

We're pleased about:

  • Halving the number of homeless households in hotels and bed and breakfasts.
  • Supporting 45 households to find permanent homes.
  • Supporting the development of 147 brand-new homes, 15 additional council homes and bringing 269 empty private properties back into use.
  • 35 homes in Llys Awelon, Ruthin are fully occupied, including two respite flats.

Did you know?

According to Welsh Government statistics, Denbighshire ranks in the top 5 in Wales for the number of additional affordable housing units delivered per 10,000 households between 2023 to 2024.

We're continuing to tackle the following challenges:

  • Supporting residents so we reduce those experiencing homelessness, including care leavers.
  • We believe that more people will be on the housing waiting list in the future due to an increase in household numbers and a shortage of affordable housing options.

2. A prosperous Denbighshire

We're pleased about:

  • Creating a new Our Rhyl Board that will lead design and delivery of the £20m grant from the UK Government's Pride in Place Programme.
  • Delivering amazing projects across Denbighshire funded through UK Government including the Local Regeneration Fund and Shared Prosperity Funding.
  • 6.39 million tourists visited Denbighshire in 2023 with tourism spend up by 17.1% to £736.05 million.

Did you know?

We supported:

  • 800 enterprises.
  • 950 organisations.
  • 5,000 local events and activities.
  • 170 people to gain employment through the Shared Prosperity Funding.
  • We have also planted over 49,000 trees.

We're continuing to tackle the following challenges:

  • Supporting the former North Wales Hospital project to secure all the necessary funding and planning agreements.
  • Reducing poverty, despite people being in work, and child poverty.
  • Maintaining roads, bridges and pavements in a timely way.

3. A healthier and happier, caring Denbighshire

We're pleased about:

  • Helping 94% of the people that used the Talking Points service so they could live safe, healthily and well without support from adult social care.
  • Encouraging people, including staff, to become Foster Carers.
  • A Nature for Health initiative supporting residents to improve their health and well-being.

Did you know?

The Council supported a Ukrainian teenager – who fled the war and ended up working as a Resettlement Caseworker to help other families settle in Denbighshire – to secure a new job in London.

We're continuing to tackle the following challenges:

  • Helping more and more people with increasingly complex needs through our children’s and adults social services.
  • Referrals and enquiries on our Children and Family Support Gateway increased from 5,056 in 2023 to 5,743 in 2024.
  • More adult carers received an assessment of need: 447 in 2024 from 370 in 2023.
  • Contacts to the Single Point of Access rose from 4,259 contacts as of March 2024 to 4,773 in March 2025.

4. A learning and growing Denbighshire

We're pleased about:

  • Helping more families to make the most of funded childcare on offer with 85% take up of fully funded Flying Start childcare offers.
  • Making improvements to Ysgol Dewi Sant, and refurbishments to Science Labs at Denbigh High School and Ysgol Dinas Brân.
  • Our young people not in education, employment or training is less than the Welsh average at only 2.1%.

Did you know?

The new inclusive, accessible and exciting play area in Cae Ddol, Ruthin opened in October. The play area honours the local area’s history whilst creating an exciting new play space that attracts families from other areas to come and spend time in Ruthin.

We're continuing to tackle the following challenges:

  • Supporting schools, families and learners to improve attendance and attainment.
  • Helping learners eligible for free school meals to improve their attainment.

5. A greener Denbighshire

We're pleased about:

  • Having the second highest figure in Wales for the proportion of zero emission vehicles as a proportion of our fleet, at 19.2% - improving air quality and reducing transport costs for the council.
  • The multimillion-pound investment in Rhyl and Prestatyn coastal defence schemes, that will protect thousands of homes and businesses from the impacts of climate change and rising sea levels.

Did you know?

We created around 97 hectares of new woodland last year – that’s roughly the size of 240 football pitches, creating more green space for residents to enjoy, improving air quality and helping reduce flooding risks!

We're continuing to tackle the following challenges:

  • Meeting our goal to become a net carbon zero and ecologically positive council by 2030.
  • Building our reputation following the rollout of the new household waste model.
  • Supporting businesses and residents to prepare for and reduce the impacts of flooding, storms and heat.

6. A well-run, high performing Council

We're pleased about:

  • Our Staff Survey showed good levels of satisfaction and pride in working for the Council.
  • Delivering a balanced budget, including saving just under £1million through changing the way we run our homelessness service.
  • Supporting staff, elected members and local businesses to be confident using the Welsh language.

Did you know?

  • During April 2024 to March 2025, we had the third lowest staff sickness absence rate out of all local authorities in Wales.
  • An independent Panel said that Denbighshire is a well-run Council.

We're continuing to tackle the following challenges:

  • Managing the increasing impact of climate change on all services.
  • Maintaining high standards amid continuing and increasing financial challenges.
  • Improving trust and satisfaction in the council when trust and satisfaction in public services is declining across the UK.
