Recycling and waste changes: Small electrical items and household batteries

Introducing free weekly collections for your household batteries and small electrical items in June 2024.

Household batteries

We can collect your used household batteries to be recycled in a pink battery clip (or clear disposable bag) every week.

Trolibocs and Pink Battery Clip

Used household batteries.

(AAA, AA, B, C, D, DD and 9V batteries.)

Clip the reusable pink pouch onto your Trolibocs handle.

We will not collect the following:

  • Battery chargers
  • Car batteries
  • Chargeable batteries from laptops, mobile phones, power tools or vacuum cleaners
  • E-cigarettes or vapes
  • Lithium-ion 'button' batteries, such as those used in calculators, hearing aids or watches

Single-use plastic bag (Bag service)

Battery Pouch (White)

Used household batteries.

(AAA, AA, B, C, D, DD and 9V batteries.)

We will not collect the following:

  • Battery chargers

  • Chargeable batteries from laptops, mobile phones, power tools or vacuum cleaners
  • E-cigarettes or vapes
  • Lithium-ion 'button' batteries, such as those used in calculators, hearing aids or watches


Small electrical items

We can collect your small electrical items (such as toasters and electric shavers) every week.

Small electrical items, including:

  • Electric shavers
  • Hairdryers
  • Irons
  • Kettles
  • Power tools
  • Radios
  • Toasters

Items must not be larger than an A4 sheet of paper. If the item contains removable batteries, these must be removed and placed in the battery collection containers.

Please place your small electrical items loosely on top of your Trolibocs for collection.

Larger electrical items can be taken to your nearest Recycling and Waste Centre.

  • Electric shavers
  • Hairdryers
  • Irons
