Introduction to the Local Integrated Family Team (LIFT)
The Local Integrated Family Team (LIFT) is a specialist team who support families who are experiencing behaviours that challenge at home.
What can LIFT do to help
We support families and the professionals working with them through:
- advice and signposting: LIFT helps families find the right support. If we cannot help directly, we provide advice and signpost to other services.
- joint working with families: LIFT focuses on workforce development. LIFT and the keyworker work together to help families understand behaviour and use practical strategies at home.
- LIFT as key worker: LIFT can act as key worker for assessment, formulation and intervention. Families receive direct support to understand behaviour and manage concerns at home, without blame or judgement. Evidence shows behaviour change requires carer and/or environmental change.
Supporting the reduction of behaviour that challenges
The 'Supporting the reduction of behaviour that challenges' video looks into the underlying reasons for challenging behaviour in children through a relationship-based lens. It covers:
- common causes of behaviour
- how skills like planning and focus (executive functioning) play a part
- why a strong, kind relationship is the best way to help
- how staying curious and staying connected leads to real change

- the impact of long-term stress on your wellbeing and relationships
- quick ways to manage stress in the moment
- how to build resilience and the importance of self-care
- how to understand your own needs with more compassion

Sensory Awareness
Our Sensory Awareness video shows how a child’s senses affect how they act and feel. It explains:
- how all the senses (including movement and body awareness) impact a child
- why behaviour that challenges is often actually a sensory struggle
- practical ways to support children when they feel overwhelmed
- how to be a 'behaviour detective' to understand what a child is communicating

Who can LIFT help
LIFT can work with families and the professionals supporting them if a child or young person is:
- under 18 years old
- living in Conwy or Denbighshire
- displaying difficult behaviour at home, such as:
- physical aggression
- verbal aggression
- property destruction
- self-injurious behaviour
- disruptive behaviour
- causing severe stress to family relationships and daily life at home
When LIFT cannot get involved
We cannot provide support if the child or young person:
- only displays difficult behaviour at school or out in the community, and not at home
- has behaviour linked to a learning disability
- has serious delays in two or more areas of development, like talking, thinking, or movement
- has behaviour that is best explained by a mental health condition, such as anxiety, depression, OCD, or trauma
- is already getting help from another specialist team, such as CAMHS, Neurodevelopmental Services, or local support teams
