Concessionary Travel Cards

A Concessionary Travel Card allows you to travel for free on most bus services across Wales and get discounted or free travel on many rail services.

Eligibility

You can get a Concessionary Travel Card if you live in Wales and are either:

  • over 60 years old
  • an eligible disabled person

An an eligible disabled person is someone meets one of the following criteria:

  • they are blind or partially sighted
  • they are profoundly or severely deaf
  • they are unable to speak
  • they have a long-term condition or injury that makes it very difficult to walk
  • they are missing both arms or cannot use both arms long term
  • they have a learning disability or cognitive impairment that affects their ability to understand new or complex information
  • they are not allowed to drive because of a long-term physical health condition (not related to alcohol or drug use)
  • they receive one of the following benefits:
    • The Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (HRMCDLA)
    • Personal Independence Payment, award having attained: 8 or more points under Descriptor 7 “Communicating Verbally”
    • Personal Independence Payment, award having attained: 12 points under Mobility Descriptor 11 “Planning and Following a Journey”
    • Personal Independence Payment, award having attained: 8 or more points under Mobility Descriptor 12 “Moving Around”
    • War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
    • An award under Tariffs 1-8 of the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS)

The PIP descriptors and their individual scores must not be added together.

How to apply for a Concessionary Travel Card

You'll need to apply to Transport for Wales for a Concessionary Travel Card.

When you apply, you'll need to provide evidence of your age, address and/or disability (if needed).

Companion Travel Cards

If you need assistance when travelling, you may be entitled to a Companion Travel Card that provides free travel for one other person accompanying you on your journey.

Applications for Companion Travel Cards are made to us, not Transport for Wales.
