What should I do?
If your home has been selected to take part in the trial, we'll deliver a leaflet to your home between Monday 7 September and Friday 11 September 2026.
The leaflet will ask you to start using the new service from Monday 14 September 2026 in one of two ways.
We're asking around half the homes taking part in the trial to use their own plastic bags to collect and put out their plastic bags and wrapping items for us to collect. We're asking the other half to use single-use blue sacks. We'll deliver a roll of these sacks to these homes along with their leaflet.
If the leaflet asks you to use your own plastic bags:
From Monday 14 September 2026, please:
- Put your empty plastic bags and wrapping items loosely into any used plastic bag you have, such as a carrier bag, bread bag, or parcel/delivery bag. Please don't use black bags or any bags larger than a 'bag for life'.
- When your bag is full, tie it securely with a double knot to prevent its contents from escaping.
- Put your tied bag inside the top box of your Trolibocs - next to your paper - then secure the blue lid and put it out on your usual collection day. If your top box is full, tie your bag to your Trolibocs frame. (If you don't have a Trolibocs, place your bag between your other recycling containers securely.)
Please place your plastic bags and wrapping items loosely into your bags. Don't tie items together or put them inside other bags. Keeping items loose helps us sort and recycle them more easily.
Until you receive your leaflet, please continue taking your plastic bags and wrapping to recycling collection points, such as those at supermarkets. You can find your nearest drop-off point at www.walesrecycles.org.uk (external website).
Please note that the items accepted may vary between locations, so follow the guidance provided at each recycling point. If you can’t take these items to a recycling point, put them in your black or blue bin with your non-recyclable waste.
If the leaflet asks you to use single-use blue sacks:
When we deliver the leaflet to your home, we'll also give you a roll of single-use blue sacks.
From Monday 14 September 2026, please:

What items should I put in my bags / blue sacks?
Please put the following items in your bags / blue sacks for plastic bags and wrapping:
- Carrier bags
- Crisp and nut packets
- Biscuit packets
- Chocolate bar and sweet wrappers
- Pasta and rice bags
- Bread bags
- Cereal box liners
You may also put the following items in your bags / blue sacks:
- Plastic parcel/delivery bags
- Plastic labels/wrapping from around drinks bottles
- Cat and dog food bags
- Dry cleaning bags and bags covering new clothing
- Plastic packaging used by retailers to deliver household items, such as appliances
- Garden compost and topsoil bags
- Wrapping used for crisp, nut and sweet multipacks
- Ready-packed fruit, salad and vegetable bags
- Thin plastic bags for loose fruit, salad and vegetable items
- Film, such as ready meal lids
- Freezer bags
- Frozen food bags
- Magazine and newspaper wrapping
- Shrink wrapping and rings from bottle and can multipacks
- Wrapping from around toilet and kitchen roll packs
- Cling film
- Sharing bags or pouches used for chocolates or sweets
- Bubble wrap
Please make sure your items don't contain any food or liquids.
What items should I not put in my bags / blue sacks?
Please do not put the following items in your bags / blue sacks for plastic bags and wrapping:
- E-cigarettes or vapes
- Polystyrene or foam
- Crisp tubes
- Pouches or sachets used for food (such as microwavable rice), drinks, baby or pet food
- Household batteries
- Pouches or sachets used for cleaning products, such as dishwasher or laundry capsules or tablets
- Netting used to package fruit and vegetables
- Punched pockets, such as 'Poly Pockets'
- Plastic straws or cutlery
- Disposable gloves or masks
- Rigid yoghurt or cream pot lids
- Blister packs, that is, the plastic packaging used for pills and tablets
- Food waste
- Pet waste
Please put your food waste in a caddy liner, tie it securely, then place it in your orange caddy.
Please put rigid yoghurt or cream pot lids in the middle box of your Trolibocs.
Please put any e-cigarettes or vapes in a single-use plastic bag, tie it securely, then place it on top of your Trolibocs.
Please put household batteries in your reusable pink pouch then clip it onto your Trolibocs handle.
Please continue to put the rest of these items in your black or blue wheelie for non-recyclable waste.
