Conditions for street trading

After a person has been granted street trading consent, they must follow the conditions for street trading.

Standard conditions

The trader(s) named in the consent must not:

  • trade outside the hours and days permitted in the consent
  • employ or use in connection with trading subject of this consent, anyone under the age of 17 years
  • cause annoyance or danger to any resident or person
  • cause any obstruction to the street or persons using it
  • use any means of amplifying sounds signifying sales
  • use any stall, table or cart or the like unless specifically permitted to do so
  • sell articles other than those specified in the consent

Other relevant conditions may be imposed following the consultation.

Fines and penalties

Enforcement action can be taken if someone:

  • trades without street trading consent or the required licence
  • trades on a street where trading is prohibited
  • doesn’t keep to the conditions of their street trading consent

Enforcement action can include:

  • street trading consent or the required licence being suspended or withdrawn
  • fines of up to £1,000
