Street trading: ice cream vans

To operate an ice cream van in Denbighshire, you'll need to follow specific rules about where you can trade and what permissions you need to stay compliant. 

Ice cream vans do not need street trading consent, unless they are trading at an event that has four stalls or less.

Trading conditions

If you operate an ice cream van in Denbighshire, you must follow these trading conditions:

  • you must regularly move your ice cream van to different locations
  • do not stay in one place for longer than 15 minutes to trade
  • do not return to the same street on the same day to trade
  • do not trade on a street where trading is prohibited

Register a food business

If you own or have taken over an ice cream van in Denbighshire, you must register your business with the council at least 28 days before you start trading.

Fines and penalties

Enforcement action can be taken if someone:

  • trades without street trading consent or the required licence
  • trades on a street where trading is prohibited
  • doesn’t keep to the conditions of their street trading consent
